Across 25 screenings taking place in the opening seven days, the film has attracted a higher average attendance than the existing record holder, Michael Moore鈥檚 Fahrenheit 9/11, which had held the title since its opening week in July 2004. The film, which tells the story of the Joy Division frontman, was always likely to hit home with local audiences, but Cornerhouse say they never expected it to be this successful, with box office lines being jammed and queues stretching onto the street. Cornerhouse Cinemas Director Linda Pariser said that everyone at the cinema was 鈥渞eally pleased that this independent British film, presented entirely in black and white, has connected so well with the audience it so richly deserves.鈥 The cinema has been a big supporter of Control ever since it hosted early test screenings for director Anton Corbijn, and that support came full circle when it hosted a memorable Manchester launch night on the day before its national release. That support continues with two upcoming events: a chat between Joy Division鈥檚 Peter Hook and Control screenwriter Matt Greenhalgh on Friday 19 October and a debate on the state of British music TV hosted by John Robb on Monday 22 October, as part of the In The City music conference. last updated: 18/10/07 You are in: Manchester > Entertainment > Arts, Film and Culture > Film, TV and Animation > Control gives Cornerhouse joy |
