Filming Waterloo Road in Manchester

On location: Waterloo Road in Manchester

Made in Manchester 2007

It’s not just Shameless and Coronation Street that are filmed in Manchester. As 2007 comes to an end, we look at the growing number of TV programmes shot in the city. And find out why it's boom time for filming in Manchester:

Ever since the very first episode of Coronation Street in 1960, programme makers have been looking to use Manchester as a filming location.

Over the years, the city has provided the backdrop to some of the nation's best loved TV dramas and comedies such as Cold Feet (C4), Cracker (ITV1), Queer As Folk (C4), Clocking Off (´óÏó´«Ã½ One) and Life on Mars (´óÏó´«Ã½ Three).

And that tradition continued in 2007 with Manchester producing some of the most popular TV programmes of the year such as Shameless (C4), Waterloo Road (´óÏó´«Ã½ One), Blue Murder (ITV1) and Drop Dead Gorgeous (´óÏó´«Ã½ Three).Ìý

Ed Pugh is from North West Vision & Media which supports and promotes filming in Manchester. He says the industry is growing here because of the presence of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and Granada and the raft of independent production companies:
