Our INSIGHTFUL research festival returned on 10 and 11 September with a focus on women and media.
Our two-day, face-to-face event in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania kicked off a series of live and online webinars open to all, showcasing research in Tanzania, East Africa and beyond.
10 September - Women and Media
We examined how research can support a more equal, diverse, and inclusive media ecosystem.
11 September - Nutrition and Consumer Voices
We explored the pivotal role of media in encouraging better health and nutrition, through communication related to social behaviour change.
These INSIGHTFUL global webinars explored:
- How women use media, and how can we further engage them?
- What is it like to be a woman working in a media organisation?
- What are the issues that media needs to address in the future - including responsible AI, and mis- and disinformation
- How can media support positive outcomes for health and nutrition?
- How can research support the design of impactful programmes?

INSIGHTFUL WEBINAR: Exploring different media contexts - Afghanistan, Tanzania, India and Kenya

With some practical examples of content we will showcase findings from our research in four countries:
- Afghanistan: A spotlight on women working in media
- Tanzania: How have programmes Niambie and Safari ya Malezi resonated with audiences?
- India: What norms prevent women from engaging in digital content, and how can we engage them better?
- Ukraine: Looking at profiles of women, how do their media preferences differ?
- Kenya: Examples of content that resonates well with women (climate change content such as our WISER project)
We will open the floor to discuss: What media output resonates with women? What can we learn? How are women/girls using media across countries? How do they differ? What media output resonates well with women? Why?

INSIGHTFUL WEBINAR: A case study and panel on social behaviour change communication in Zambia and Tanzania

Part 1: Presentation from our work in Zambia on sexual and reproductive health. Discover more about Tikambe our project supporting young Zambians to make sexual and reproductive health decisions through media and outreach.
Part 2: Panel discussion on social behaviour change around nutrition. Experts and others doing the similar work in Tanzania will explore the gaps in consumer voices and the best way to increase them, covering questions such as: What are the gaps in the availability and consumption of healthy and safe food in Tanzania? If we keep the current consumption patterns, what does the future look like, and how can we improve it? Insights on what to add to our analysis and the communication framework?
