Accountability and聽participation

Few disagree with the notion that a free media has historically played a key role in holding government to account and reducing corruption. How is this role being enacted in 21st communication environments where access to information has exploded but co-option of media by those who do not wish to be held to account is on the rise? And what support strategies are likely to be most effective in improving accountability and answerability of government to people or improving public participation in politics and governance? How does support to media sit alongside many other strategies designed to improve accountability, such as the investments being made in access to information, open data, budget monitoring and other informational initiatives? What do we expect media to achieve? These are some of the issues that form the focus of our policy analysis and research in the area of accountability and have anchored our engagement with other governance policy actors such at the .
