A summary of qualitative research conducted in March 2020 with young social media users in Myanmar, looking at how they encounter fake news and misinformation, including about COVID-19, online – how frequently they come across it, how they assess it, and what types of fake news and misinformation they tend to see.

Summary
Our long-running social cohesion radio project, The Tea Cup Diaries, in Myanmar is increasing its online presence and content to address issues related to fake news and digital literacy among young people, who are increasingly turning to social media for their news and information. We conducted formative research with young active Facebook users to inform future project strategies on tackling fake news - including about COVID-19 - online.
