Tuyajenge (Let Us Build) is our weekly radio show that aims to address issues in the lives of young men and women aged 25 -35 in Tanzania.
Our episodes cover themes including gender-based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and early pregnancy, girls' access to education, access to paid work, sexual and reproductive health and services, mental health, and women and girls in leadership and political participation.
Through it all, we are working for gender equality and to break down barriers that hold women and girls back.
Meet our presenter, Hannah Mbago:
"Presenting and producing Tuyajenge is important to me because it advocates for change in key areas of the lives of men and women in Tanzania.
"Being involved in media in general has always been my passion, so I determined to pursue it as a personal goal and eventually I got the privilege to produce and present Tuyajenge. The main thing that inspires me to do my job every day is the knowledge that the show is making a difference in people's lives, and that is something worth striving towards.
"What I have discovered through working on Tuyajenge is the importance of raising awareness about harmful social norms in society. Most people quietly accept the status quo, but listening to a show that confronts those issues and shares information on how to tackle and overcome them may go a long way towards effecting positive change."
Tuyajenge is part of our wider Niambie! project and is funded by Global Affairs Canada, Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and American Jewish World Service.
Its content also appears on our Niambie! and pages.
