Kembali ke Hutan

Strengthening accountability and building a culture of care towards green growth and natural resources in Indonesia through media.

Exploring local solutions to sustainable development challenges"

Our Kembali ke Hutan (Return to the Forest) project creates engaging digital and TV programming that focuses on strengthening governance and sustainable green growth. Through integrated and mass-media, we are engaging with young Indonesians about the sustainable development choices their country faces, helping them make informed choices on environmental issues, and creating accessible spaces for trusted and informed discussion.

The power of drama

Created in partnership with the Indonesian broadcaster, SCTV, a 20-episode soap opera, , was brought to life a through group of young Indonesian actors. The programme role-models civic participation and aims to strengthen governance for environmental issues faced in everyday life, from flooding and extreme heat to plastic pollution and fast fashion, while exploring solutions and mitigating actions our audiences could take. The storylines and characters are modelled on the intended youth audience and based on our extensive research.

Broadcast alongside a live online discussion show, guests included online influencers, senior government ministers, experts and role models. It delved into the issues raised in the show and gave our audience the opportunity to ask their own questions, show off their own actions and share their own opinions. So far these programmes have reached audiences of more than 25 million all over Indonesia.

Climate action online

On social media platforms, our brand, (Our Action) is sharing compelling information and insights, reaching millions and sparking conversations amongst our audience across the Indonesian archipelago through Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok, and Twitter.

Our ‘Earth Gossip’ content is informing young people about environmental and climate issues, and how to take action in their own lives to address them. 'Interaksi' (Interaction) content features young local champions who are voluntarily taking action in their community to overcome climate change in innovative ways. We believe that communication is essential in climate action – find out more about our approach here.
