Ujeli: 'We don't get to study after marriage'

Ujeli spoke to our presenter in Nepal about her fears of being married too young - four years later, we revisited her to see what had happened.

Ujeli is an earthquake survivor in Nepal, interviewed by our team following the 2015 earthquakes.

Displaced by the earthquakes, she left school at 15 because of frequent seizures; her parents could not afford a doctor. She continued studying at home, and worried about being married too young.

Watch her story as told to our presenter:

We met Ujeli when she was an earthquake survivor and worried about being married too young.
They don't even wait for us to grow up...I want to get educated and make changes in the village"
— Ujeli, 2015

We visited Ujeli four years later, to find out what happened. Watch how her future unfolded.

Four years later, Ujeli tells us how she managed to continue her education.
I'm different than the Ujeli I was before... Now I feel like I can handle any situation and speak up."
— Ujeli, 2019
