Our Lifeline response in Libya

El Kul (For Everyone) is one of Libya's only independent, impartial media platforms, now helping survivors cope after torrential flooding

On 10 Sept, Storm Daniel swept in off the coast of Libya – and two aging dams collapsed under its ferocity, creating torrential flooding that has wiped out much of the city of Derna. Thousands have died; tens of thousands more lost their homes, and virtually everything they had.

In a crisis, people need information they can trust – about how to get help, and what to do next. It’s as critical as food, water and shelter.

´óÏó´«Ã½ Media Action has been working in Libya for more than a decade including through our digital news and current affairs platform for Libyan audiences, El Kul (For Everyone). El Kul is providing critical Lifeline information to survivors, their families and to communities who are now hosting evacuees – including how to access aid, how to protect themselves against contaminated floodwater, how to find clean water, sanitation and food, and how to differentiate between false and sometimes dangerous rumours and what is true online.

With more than 1.3 million followers across Facebook and Instagram, El Kul is one of the only at-scale independent, impartial, trusted sources of information for Libyan audiences, often reaching up to six million people in Libya and its diaspora population a month. It is funded entirely by our donors.

Check out its content – from how to register missing persons, to inspiring stories about Libyans coming together to help flood survivors – on and .
