This countryside around Kingcombe is a window into an earlier time before modern farming. It boasts small fields, ancient grassland and areas of bog.

The nature reserve comprises over 100 hectares of unimproved grassland with ancient hedgerows, areas of scrub and mature trees.

Getting there:

Take the Dorchester-Crewkerne road (A356) to Toller Porcorum and turn right in the village. Follow the signs to The Kingcombe Centre along Kingcombe Road, 1 mile to Lower Kingcombe. The Centre is located on your right after the Dorset Wildlife Trust.

Numerous parking space for cars and minibuses.

Nearest station - Maiden Newton (Bristol to Weymouth line) and then take a bus to the Centre. The Centre can usually arrange to meet you at one of the stations - ask well in advance.
