The Snowdonia National Park covers more than 800 square miles of stunning upland countryside.

This Welsh wilderness, which surrounds Mount Snowdon, is home to a variety of hardy wildlife including the Mountain Goat and Ravens as well as Otters, Polecats and Stoats.

Essential kit:Snowdonia's weather is unpredictable and can change quickly. Remember that the weather at the top of Mount Snowdon can be much colder than at the bottom. Take warm and weatherproof clothing. Binoculars.
Nature watching:

Bird watching, nature watching - Mountain Goats, fishing, hill walking, climbing, outdoor pursuits etc

One of the best scenic drives is the run along the A498 from Beddgelert past two lakes, Llyn Dinas and Llyn Gwynant, and up the Nanat Gwynant Pass into the higher ground of Snowdonia.

Snowdon Mountain Railway takes visitors from Llanberis Station up the mountain side.

Raven watching - February onwards around the Old Slate Mill north of Tremadog.

Mountain goats - across Snowdonia especially around the village of Beddgelert on the A498.

Access:

Snowdon Mountain Railway has special carriages for wheelchair users - 9.30am, 12 and 2.30pm (booking in advance advised).


National Park - some very steep slopes in upland areas and rough ground unsuitable for wheelchair users.

Getting there:

The National Park is located to the south of Bangor and south east of Caernarfon. One of the other major towns within driving distance is Porthmadog to the south of the park.

Take the Snowdon Mountain Railway up the mountain -

Opening times:Open year round. Check train times with Snowdon Mountain Railway (booking in advance advised).
Charges:Snowdon Mountain Railway - Adults 拢21; Children 拢14 (return).
