US pop star Christina Aguilera has postponed her forthcoming summer North American tour due to her busy work schedule, her spokeswoman has said.

The singer is set to appear in new movie Burlesque later this year and is also promoting her new album Bionic, which is released on 8 June.

"The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show," said Aguilera's spokeswoman in a statement.

New dates for the tour will be announced later this year.

Not Myself Tonight, the first single from Bionic, reached number 23 in the US last month.

Bionic is her first studio album since 2006's Back To Basics.

Aguilera, 29, shot to fame with 1999 global chart-topper Genie In A Bottle.
