Appleby Horse Fair policing not affected by shootings
- Published
The Appleby Horse Fair has begun in Cumbria, and police have said the shooting spree in the region will not affect their presence at the event.
Gates to the fair opened at 0400 BST, with 50,000 visitors expected at the annual gathering over the next week.
Last year's event saw 27 arrests following a mass brawl, and the seizure of counterfeit goods worth £250,000.
Cumbria Police said an increased presence at the fair will go ahead.
Jerry Graham, Assistant Chief Constable, said: "In light of the traumatic events that happened in West Cumbria yesterday, I'd like to reassure Appleby residents and visitors that the policing of the fair will not be affected."
