Edinburgh-based company Wolfson Microelectronics has announced a contract with Samsung.

A Wolfson audio chip is included in Samsung's soon to be released smartphones, Wave and Galaxy S.

The contract is a major boost to the firm which reported losses of 拢9m earlier this year.

The company, which makes microchips for mobile phones, TVs and gaming consoles employs about 370 people in 12 locations throughout the world.

Duncan Macadie, the firm's product line manager for audio hub solutions, said: "Wolfson is committed to delivering high definition audio solutions for the consumer electronics market, and these latest design wins with Samsung's high profile Wave and Galaxy S smartphones is testament to the strength of Wolfson's technology, expertise and support capabilities."
