A scheme intended to reduce congestion on the M6 and M1 has been shelved in a bid to cut Department for Transport costs.

Under the plans, M1 southbound drivers would not be able to join the M6 at the Catthorpe Interchange near Rugby.

A public inquiry into the 拢300m scheme has also been cancelled.

The Government Office for the East Midlands said the "way forward" would become clearer after a government spending review.

The review is due to report back in the autumn.
