Dana plans to drill 10 more exploration and appraisal wells this year

Dana Petroleum has found oil at the Blackbird field in the North Sea.

Aberdeen-based Dana said analysis had indicated 75ft of good quality oil bearing reservoir sands.

Blackbird is in the same licence area as Ettrick, an oil field which has been producing up to 22,000 barrels of oil per day since August last year.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Dana was in talks with the South Korean oil company KNOC about a possible takeover.

Tom Cross, Dana's chief executive, said: "Dana's intensive drilling programme includes a further 10 exploration and appraisal wells, targeting additional oil and gas reserves in proven hydrocarbon basins.

"Blackbird is the first of these wells and the next three are already drilling in the UK, Netherlands and Egypt."
