A hotel in Grantham is to extend into a former bank to create a new late-night space and function room.

The planning committee at South Kesteven District Council has approved the proposal to extend the existing Angel and Royal Hotel in High Street into the former Halifax building.

The bank closed in November 2023.

Councillors who endorsed the project at a meeting on Thursday said the plan would be a "major benefit" to the town.

The applicant, Dean Harrison, purchased the former bank for £195,000 and said he would invest a further £400,000 to refurbish the site.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, he told councillors the plan would enable his venue to host weddings, functions and dining.

Conservative councillor David Bellamy praised the "amazing" façade of the Halifax building, adding "It’s great that it’s being brought back into use."
