A man has died after being hit by a car.

Cleveland Police said the crash, in which the pedestrian died, happened on the A174 in Middlesbrough at about 15:15 GMT.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident, officers said.

The westbound carriageway from Greystones roundabout to Ormesby Bank was closed for several hours. Police have asked for drivers with dashcam footage or who saw a black BMW X5 in the area, to get in touch.
