A runner died after collapsing during the Great Manchester Run.

The man, 40, was given medical treatment after falling ill during the half-marathon event through the city on Sunday.

The runner - who has not been named - was one of around 30,000 people taking part in Sunday's event.

Organisers from the Great Run Company said the man died later in hospital, and sent their "heartfelt condolences to the participant's family and friends".

'Deep sadness'

The spokesperson added the company would not be releasing any further details.

Sunday's event also included a 10k (6.2mile) run.

The event, which was broadcast live on 大象传媒 One, is a key fixture in the city's calendar, raising funds for several charities.

It took place ahead of Sunday's victory parade for Premier League champions Manchester City.
