Flat fire started by charging e-scooter

A charging e-scooter caused a blaze which damaged a flat in Leicestershire, the fire service said.
The fire started at the property in Canal Street, South Wigston, at about 07:00 GMT on Monday.
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said one person escaped the flat and was treated for smoke inhalation.
The service said an investigation using a thermal imaging camera revealed the blaze was accidentally started by a lithium-ion battery in the scooter.
Four fire crews were sent to the blaze, in addition to an aerial ladder platform, the service said.
Breathing apparatus and two hoses were used by firefighters to extinguish the flames.
Following an investigation, firefighters said an e-scooter, which was left charging in the flat, was the origin of the blaze.
They say lithium-ion batteries are an "evergrowing cause of fires" and encouraged users to follow their .
