Two people have been arrested following a hit-and-run which left a man in hospital.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Bedminster Down Road in Bristol at about 11:30 GMT on Wednesday, following a crash between a van and pedestrian.

A 31-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft of a vehicle and for failing to stop at the scene. The man was further arrested on suspicion of theft from a vehicle, possession of a knife and possession of a suspected class A drug, police said.

The road was closed earlier, but has since been reopened.

Police confirmed the van had been reported stolen, and the vehicle has since been located.

The pedestrian remains in hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, they added.

Officers have urged witnesses to contact police.
