A year-round ferry service will be introduced in Alderney that will "change [the] island forever".
Alderney Ferry Service Limited will add a new vessel to its fleet by the end of August.
Its two current vessels operate between the island and Guernsey and Cherbourg, in France, only seasonally, between March and October.
But the Dart Fisher, a 24-metre Alicat passenger ferry, will operate all year round and will be able to withstand the seas in all seasons.
Charlie Smith, Alderney Ferry Services Company Director, said: "We always knew this would be a big gamble for us but we know what we are doing will change our island forever.
"This is a very exciting new chapter for our company and for our island."
