Police called to beach after 'bones found'

An inquiry is under way after what are believed to be bones were found on a Sunderland beach.

Police were called to Roker just after midday on Tuesday, after the discovery was made by a member of the public.

Officers were sent to the scene, near Marine Walk, Northumbria Police said.

It is unknown whether the bones are human or animal.

A spokesperson for the force said: 鈥淥fficers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing into the discovery.鈥

A flood warning had been in place in the area around Marine Walk on 11 March.

The Environment Agency warned people to be wary of high winds and tides.
