Nine orphaned ducklings have been rescued by police after being found on a motorway.

Wiltshire Police were called to reports of the animals on the M4 near Swindon on Monday.

When armed police arrived they found that the mother duck was dead but nine ducklings had survived their motorway ordeal.

They were later taken to RSPCA Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre in Cricklade to be cared for.
