Rail passengers faced disruption for more than eight hours after a person was hit by a train between Rugby and Milton Keynes.
National Rail said the incident was reported at about 08:00 BST, prompting all lines between the stations to be closed while emergency services carried out their work.
The disruption affected Avanti Coast and London Northwestern Railway services.
Lines reopened after 16:30 BST, with National Rail warning services would still be delayed.
