A senior school is closed to most pupils after a fire caused "significant damage" to its canteen kitchen.

Sandbach High School was evacuated on Friday afternoon, said Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, as crews tackled the fire.

A high pressure fan was used to clear smoke, the service said, as crews dampened down the area.

The school said Years 7 to 10 and Year 12 would be remote learning on Monday. But Year 11 and Year 13 exams would be taking place as planned, and pupils should come in.

Giving for pupils, the school said those in school should bring a packed lunch as it did not have dining facilities.

Head teacher Ellen Walton said: 鈥淯nfortunately there has been a small fire in the kitchen area of our canteen.

鈥淭he fire brigade did a brilliant job at putting it out but there is smoke damage and more significant fire damage to our kitchen.鈥

She added the school aimed to reopen on Tuesday but this would be confirmed later on Monday.
