A second Caribbean flamingo egg has been laid at a wildlife sanctuary just weeks after the first such egg was laid following a five-year gap, keepers have said.

Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary in Hayle said this egg was laid on 2 July, while the first egg was laid by a different flamingo pairing on 15 June.

The park said it was a "very exciting time" and added the first and only time a Caribbean flamingo egg hatched in the park was in 2019.

Keeper Becky Waite said the second egg was laid by a pairing named Edwina and Anthony, inspired by the characters from Netflix series Bridgerton.

Hopeful for third egg

Ms Waite said the park, which has nine Caribbean flamingos, was hopeful for a third egg after preparing activity from other flamingos.

The park said the first egg, which was laid by parents Colin and Penelope, was expected to hatch on about 15 July.
