Two men have been arrested after an assault left a man with life-threatening injuries.
South Wales Police said he was taken to hospital after an attack on Princess Way, Swansea, in the early hours of Wednesday.
A 26-year-old from Frome, Somerset, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and a 27-year-old from Bath has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Both men remain in custody, police said.
Princess Way is one of the main streets into the city and was partially closed for the investigation.
Four police vans were at the scene, where a section of the road was cordoned off.
Forensic cones could be seen laid out on the pavement near the Travelodge close to Wind Street, a popular area with many bars and restaurants.
