Work has started on a 拢5m project by Highland Council to renovate Inverness's Northern Meeting Park.

Its Victorian grandstand - which dates back to 1864 - is being refurbished and a new community pavilion building will be constructed.

The scheme is one of three in Inverness being supported by grants from the UK government's levelling up fund.

Contractor Morrison Construction is scheduled to complete the work by the end of the year.

Highland Council鈥檚 Inverness city and area leader, Ian Brown, said the park was an important place where people had met and gathered over decades to enjoy sporting activities and events.

The other projects involve improvements to Bught Park, including an upgrade of spectator facilities, and plans to build an energy centre to provide heat to Inverness Castle and neighbouring properties.
