Woman hurt trying to stop bull-type dog attack

A woman has been injured trying to stop a bull-type animal attacking a dog.

It happened at about 17:15 GMT on Tuesday on Mitford Grove in North Shields, North Tyneside.

Northumbria Police said a dog escaped from a property and attacked another dog causing "serious injuries".

The 57-year-old woman suffered a broken hand while trying to separate the animals, police said.

The dog has been taken by police with the agreement its owner.

"While a further assessment will be carried out, officers believe the dog to be a bull-type breed at this early stage," a spokesperson added.
