Lancashire Police said a Seat Altea left the motorway at Bilsborrow, near Preston, and rolled several times, at about 14:00 BST on Monday.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries.

Four passengers, a woman in her 60s, a woman in her 20s and two children, were also seriously injured, police added.

The motorway, between junctions 33 and 32, was closed for several hours on Monday while officers investigated.
