A woman who was hit by a taxi on Sunday has died, police have confirmed.

The crash happened just after 01:00 GMT on Prince Regent Street, Stockton-on-Tees.

Kayleigh Daggett, 38, from Stockton, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died in hospital.

A 40-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has been released on bail.

'Devastated'

The crash happened between the junctions with Bishopton Lane and Dovecot Street, near to KFC.

Ms Dagget's family said: “We are absolutely devastated to have lost our wonderful Kayleigh.

"She was a lovely daughter and sister to three brothers and a fabulous mother.

"Kayleigh had so much to look forward to in life and we can’t put into words how much we will miss her."

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses and information.
