A car thief has admitted killing a 68-year-old man in east London.

Edgaras Motiejunas, also known as Ignas, 24, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to the manslaughter of Evaldas Simanaitis.

Mr Simanaitis was found seriously injured outside his home in Leytonstone, east London, in October 2023.

CCTV footage showed Mr Simanaitis had been shouting at two men breaking into cars and had been struck in the face by one of them.

The Old Bailey heard Mr Simanaitis was taken to hospital and died 10 days later.

Motiejunas, of New Road, Rainham, also pleaded guilty to the theft of a Toyota Avensis car. He denied robbery.

The prosecution accepted his guilty pleas and he will be sentenced on 3 December.
