A 220-home estate and shop have been proposed for land in north Devon.

The site, 27 acres (11 hectares) in size, is situated north of Old Bideford Road, Barnstaple.

It is also next to the boundary of Roundswell and the recently constructed Glenwood Farm development.

Developer Hallam Land said its plans represented a logical extension to Roundswell and would provide much-needed housing.

A spokesperson for the firm said 30% of the homes would be classed as affordable, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reported.

The application includes enhanced pedestrian and cycle links that would connect the shop to other nearby developments.

A green, orchard and allotments are also included, as well as a tree-lined main street with views to the Taw Estuary and wildlife corridors around the site.

The public has until 27 November to give their views to North Devon Council.
