Former officer accused of rape to appear in court
A former police officer accused of rape and sexual assault of a woman he met on a dating app is set to appear in court.
Christopher Mallet, 40, who was a Sussex Police constable based in Horsham, allegedly attacked the woman he met online when he was off-duty in May 2019.
He was charged with two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
The probe ended in March 2021 and the Crown Prosecution Service approved the charges after reviewing a file of evidence from the police watchdog.
Mr Mallet will appear at Guildford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
