Highland councillors have approved an outline business case for a new school campus in Inverness.

The phased redevelopment of Charleston Academy, proposed by Highland Council, was approved during a meeting on Tuesday.

The first part of the plan involves building a new nursery, which will be funded by the Scottish government.

Efforts will then be made to replace the 46-year-old secondary school, as well as the eventual relocation of the nearby Kinmylies Primary to the site.

However, Highland Council currently has no money to carry out the work.

Last year, changes to the local authority's capital spending plans reduced the amount of money available from £14.5m to £1.5m.

Charleston Academy parent council said basic improvements were urgently needed within the current building.
