Person hit by vehicle on motorway dies

One person has died after being hit by a vehicle on a motorway.

They were struck near junction 42 of the M6 in Cumbria shortly after 20:00 BST on Saturday.

Police shut the northbound and southbound carriageways between junctions 41 and 43 for several hours while a search and examination of the scene was carried out.

National Highways traffic officers provided assistance at the scene and diversions were in place before the road reopened on Sunday.

Cumbria Police appealed for anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
