Photo contest heralds Tamar Valley River Festival

Photographers are being challenged to capture the beauty of the Tamar Valley as part of a free family festival celebrating life around the river.
Organisers said by midnight on 18 October with the winners announced at the Tamar Valley River Festival in Calstock on Saturday 26 October.
The theme is life along the river, which runs between Devon and Cornwall, with prizes for the judges鈥 favourite image and the people鈥檚 choice.
The festival will celebrate local heritage and feature art, live music, dance, crafts, food and drink.
The setting of legends
It will include folk music, gig racing, exhibitions, singing workshops, nature walks, art activities and a parade by school children.
鈥淭he River Tamar is an important part of the culture and natural landscape of Devon and Cornwall," said Bryony James of the Tamara Landscape Partnership Scheme.
"It is home to a wealth of wildlife, has inspired numerous artists and writers and is the setting of legends.
鈥淲e are looking for photos that capture the beautiful Tamar Valley and could incorporate, for example, wildlife, history, heritage, local people, or nature."
