A "large out-of-control dog" seen running in the road in Reigate was tasered by police on Wednesday.

Officers were called to The Cedars at 19:52 BST where they blocked oncoming traffic with their car to safeguard the animal.

Surrey Police said officers attempted to contain the dog, which they described as "out-of-control", for over an hour but eventually "had to make the difficult decision to use their taser".

The dog - which police believed was a Kangal Shepherd - was taken to the vets.

It has since been discharged and reunited with its owner.

A man was arrested for being drunk and disorderly, making threats to kill and assault of an emergency worker.

He is in custody and Surrey Police said "enquiries remain ongoing".
