Work to begin on multimillion-pound road scheme

Work on a multimillion-pound scheme to upgrade a major road junction in Staffordshire is set to begin in February.
The A38 Branston Interchange project aims to ease congestion and increase capacity on the busy route near Burton-upon-Trent.
Additional lanes will be created around the junction, on the slip roads, on Branston Road and on Parkway, along with new traffic lights.
The 拢8m scheme, partly funded by 拢6m from the government鈥檚 Levelling Up Fund, is scheduled to be finished in spring 2025.
Councillor Philip White, Staffordshire County Council鈥檚 deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills, said he understood there would be some disruption and apologised in advance.
He said: 鈥淭he Branston Interchange junction is a key transport gateway into Burton and these vital improvements will bring long-term benefits to thousands of residents and businesses in the town and wider area.鈥
As well as improving traffic flow, it is hoped the project will help support the ongoing development at Branston Locks.
The council confirmed the main developer of Branston Locks, Nurton Developments, had made a 鈥渟ignificant contribution鈥 towards the interchange project.
Work is due to begin on Branston Road from February 10, for which there will be a one-way road closure.
