Elderly pair among four crash deaths in 24 hours
An elderly man and woman have died following a two-vehicle crash in County Donegal.
The collision happened on the N56 near the village of Kilmacrennan at about 23.50 local time on Wednesday, garda铆 (Irish police) have said.
Both people were in their 70s and were travelling in the same car when they sustained fatal injuries.
The pair were among four people to die as a result of crashes in the Republic of Ireland within a 24-hour period.
A man in his 20s was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash in Dublin on Wednesday afternoon.
He was riding a motorcycle which crashed on the Old North Road in Finglas shortly after 14:00 local time.
At around the same time, a woman in her 80s was fatally injured in a two-car collision in County Meath.
She was driving on the R148 near Enfield when the crash happened.
The driver of the second car involved in the Meath crash was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In the Donegal collision, a woman in her 40s who was travelling in the second car sustained serious injuries.
She was brought to hospital in Letterkenny but her condition was said to be non-life threatening.
Garda铆 have appealed for witnesses to all three collisions to contact them.
