Extra patrols in place after 'serious' assault
Police are patrolling an area of Northampton after a man in 20s was seriously injured in an attacked in the street.
Northamptonshire Police said the victim was being treated in hospital following the incident in Booth Lane South.
It happened just after midnight.
A road closure implemented at the scene caused disruption for children heading to nearby primary and secondary schools.
The senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Liz Basham, said: "There will continue to be a police presence in the area over the next few days, including high-visibility patrols to offer reassurance and support to the local community.
"Anyone who has any concerns is encouraged to speak to an officer."
