Burglars have caused a "significant amount of damage" after breaking into a North Yorkshire school, police said.

The thieves are thought to have broken a window to gain access to Brompton Hall School, in Scarborough, between 02:00 and 03:00 GMT on Monday.

A petrol go-cart was taken from the property during the raid, North Yorkshire Police said.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
