A murder investigation has been opened following the death of a man in Nuneaton.

Warwickshire Police was called shortly before 21:30 BST on Saturday after receiving reports a man had been stabbed on Queens Road.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital by ambulance but later died as a result of his injuries, a police statement confirmed.

Senior investigating officer, Det Ch Insp Katie Reynolds said: "Following this tragic incident, a murder investigation is now underway and our thoughts remain with the man鈥檚 family."

Ms Reynolds added that no arrests had been made but that investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.

She urged anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact police.

Residents have also been told to expect a heightened police presence near the scene while officers carry out their enquiries and a large police cordon remains in place.

The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem will be carried out in the coming days, said police.
