Two men have been arrested after a man was left critically injured in a street assault.
A 39-year-old was left with head injuries after the attack on Hart Lane in Hartlepool, near the junction with Serpentine Road, on Saturday at 18:45 BST.
Cleveland Police said he was being treated at James Cook University Hospital.
Two 24-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, the force added.
They were later released on bail.
Detectives said they believe there were a lot of vehicles in the area at the time and appealed for anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage to get in touch.
