A man and a boy from London have been charged after an investigation was launched into an alleged plot to carry prohibited items into prisons with a drone.

The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit said the inquiry focused on the use of a drone to carry drugs, tobacco, lighters and mobile phone accessories into jails across south-east England.

Bradley Scott, 27, of Limpsfield Avenue, Thornton Heath, and a 17-year-old boy from Croydon, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with conspiracy to convey articles into prison.

Both were due to appear before Crawley magistrates on Friday, a spokesman for the organised crime unit said.
