A nurse has appeared in court charged with killing a patient in his care.

Blake Dolan, 31, is accused of injecting Martin Weldon with an opioid without first confirming his identity at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It is alleged Mr Dolan gave the 36-year-old a lethal dosage of a painkiller containing the opioid Alfentanil that had not been prescribed to him in August 2022

Mr Dolan made no plea at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a charge of culpable homicide, and has been released on bail.

A further court date is to be determined.

It is understood that Mr Weldon was being treated for diabetic hypoglycemia at the time.

The condition had caused a brain injury and his family had twice been told his life-support machines would need to be switched off.

However, Mr Wheldon, from Dumbarton, was making progress in his recovery until his death.
