Teens arrested after reports of shots fired at park

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in public after a reported incident at playing fields in West Sussex.

Police received a report of shots fired at Northgate Playing Field in Crawley at around 03:00 BST on Sunday.

An 18-year-old man from London and a 14-year-old boy from Kent were both arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in public.

They remained in custody on Sunday afternoon.

Sussex Police said no injuries were reported.

Officers searched the area and recovered a knife from nearby North Close.

The two suspects were arrested at an address in the same street.

The 18-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

A cordon was erected around the playing fields while officers searched the area, police said.

Det Ch Insp Pauline Lane, district commander for Crawley and Mid Sussex, said: "Thankfully incidents of this nature are extremely rare, however I am mindful of the concern this will have caused local residents.

鈥淚鈥檇 like to reassure the public that we鈥檙e treating this as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider community."
