Metal plaques stolen from memorial gates

Metal plaques listing the names of people who died in World War One and World War Two have been stolen from memorial gates.

While two large plaques remain, two smaller ones have been taken from the base of marble posts at Neath's Gnoll Estate Country Park.

One plaque was taken on 18 July, and the other on 21 July.

The council dubbed the crime "despicable" and one which showed "complete disrespect" for those who had died.

It asked anyone with information to contact South Wales Police.

The force confirmed it is investigating.

This year two men were jailed after they tried to sell six bronze plaques stolen from a war memorial.

Plaques were also stolen from a graveyard in Benfleet, Essex last year.
