An abandoned dog has been rescued after being found dumped in a hedge in a fly-tipping hotspot.

The 10-year-old shih tzu was discovered badly matted and covered in faeces, in Coytrahen, Bridgend county, on 24 January.

A passer-by took the neglected dog to the vet, not knowing whether she would live or die after contracting sepsis.

Patsy pancake, as the dog is now known, is now in the care of the RSPCA Cymru.

RSPCA deputy chief inspector Gemma Cooper said: "It was touch-and-go as to whether Patsy would survive, but the staff at the vets are incredible and have helped to make a miracle happen.

"She is now with a foster carer and has settled in well to her new environment."
